About The Poets' Trail
The Poets’ Trail was set up by Roger Phipps with the assistance of Linda Benton (artwork) and Terry Taylor (trail work) as a living legacy to celebrate his love of words, nature, the village and local community.
Roger fell in love with East Hagbourne. He felt very at home and got much of his inspiration for poetry from nature and from the history around East Hagbourne. The trail is made up of 13 points and poems. The first book has a map in the middle and readers can follow the trail or just stop at one or two places and reflect on the space and poem as they wish.
Roger had originally planned to leave money for the project in his will, but he was persuaded to start this when he was alive. Roger was very pleased to do this and, since his death in 2021, the residue of his estate will continue to support the maintenance of the trail and development of creative projects under the name of The Poets’ Trail - East Hagbourne.
The project is self-funding through Roger’s legacy and has the full support of East Hagbourne Parish Council. The project was show cased by SOHA in one of a series of videos ‘Real People True Stories’ - watch here: https://youtube.com/watch?v=1aaaClaeBY8
